De nieuwste versie van CadStd (3.5.9 ) kwam in maart 2004 uit. Hij is alleen in het Engels beschikbaar. Het programma is verkrijgbaar in twee versies: Lite en Pro. De Lite versie is ruim 1,5 MB groot, ongeveer tien minuten download met een 56K modem.

Je kunt met CadStd Lite de volgende bestanden aan.

• openen: *.DXF en *.CAD
• importeren: *.DXF
• opslaan: *.CAD
• exporteren: *.DXF

Hierbij is *.CAD het eigen bestandsformaat van CadStd en *.DXF het over de hele wereld gebruikte standaard formaat van AutoCad.

CadStd kan niet omgaan met het andere belangrijke standaardformaat van AutoCad: *.DWF. Hoe erg is dat? Bedenk dat het *.DXF formaat altijd zeer omvangrijk is en (dus) minder geschikt voor verzending per email of voor plaatsing op websites. Daarvoor komt feitelijk alleen het *.DWF formaat in aanmerking. Er bestaan natuurlijk wel shareware converters, die *.DXF in *.DWF omzetten. Een voorbeeld? AutoDWG's DWG2DWF (2,1 MB, 15 dagen gratis op proef, daarna 49$).

Het verschil tussen Lite en Pro? Pro biedt meer mogelijkheden bij het tekenen dan Lite, te weten: Intercept, Trim, Gap, Offset, Search and replace text, Search and replace text from a file, Isometric Grid support, Fillet, Chamfer, Isometric Projection from orthographic views, Ability to print a large drawing on a small printer using multiple sheets, Radial and Angular Dimensions and 255 level undo.

Voor CadStd zijn de minimum systeemeisen: Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, XP of NT.

CadStd Lite is freeware; CadStd Pro kost 25$.

CadStd is redelijk eenvoudig te leren. Voor de Lite versie is er geen ondersteuning. Het programma heeft wel een beknopte "Help" pagina en verder is er een on-line pagina met "frequently asked questions". Koop je de Pro versie, dan kun je een uitgebreide "Cad Standard User's Guide and Tutorial" in *.PDF formaat downloaden.

CadStd is not really very difficult to master. There is no support for the Lite version. The programme has a concise "Help" page and there is also an on-line page with "frequently asked questions". If you do buy the Pro version, you have access to download an extensive "Cad Standard User's Guide and Tutorial" in *.PDF format.
