Commissioned technical websites

Sedert een jaar of tien vormt het Internet een interessant medium voor het uitwisselen van informatie en gegevens. Email heeft de communicatie onvoorstelbaar vereenvoudigd en versneld. Newsgroups bieden een veelgebruikt kanaal voor "vraag en antwoord".

For some ten years now, the Internet has been an interesting medium for the exchange of information and data. Email has inconceivable simplified and speeded up communication. Newsgroups offer a widely used "put a question and get an answer" forum.

Prachtig toch, dat Internet!

Op het Internet kun je, met betrekkelijk geringe inspanning en goed resultaat, veel kwijt over je bedrijf, instelling, museum. De informatie die je aanbiedt staat er permanent, is 24 uur per etmaal toegankelijk. Met een goede webpresentatie hoef je zelden nog pakketjes folders te versturen. Ook de receptiebalie hoeft minder vragen te beantwoorden.

Een goede website is een must

Een goede website biedt meer dan alleen een paar slechte fotootjes en wat algemene bla-bla. Essentieel voor succes is, dat je:

• er werkelijke, bruikbare c.q. nuttige informatie (gratis) op aanbiedt, zodat bezoekers er werkelijk iets opdoen en een antwoord vinden op hun vraag
• per omgaande reageert op vragen die per email binnenkomen, en de interactie die zo ontstaat, gebruikt om de website steeds actueel te houden

Richt je een website zo in, dan zal deze in de zoekmachines goed scoren, waardoor je bezoekersaantallen lekker toenemen. En daarmee de respons.

Het lijkt een open deur, maarre, je moet er ook voor zorgen, dat de navigatie op de website intuïtief is, glashelder, en voor ieder­een begrijpbaar. Je krijgt na enige tijd bezoekers uit ruim meer dan 80 landen, van over de hele wereld. Je dient dus een goede oplossing voor het taalprobleem te zoeken.

Great stuff, this Internet!

You can publish a lot of information on your company, institution, museum. It takes but little effort and the results can be very good. The information you offer is permanent and can readily be accessed 24 hours a day. With a good web presentation you only very seldom have to send out paper brochures. And your reception desk has to answer far less questions.

A good website is a must

A good website offers more than just a few low-quality small photo's and some general blah-blah. To be successful, you must:

• offer (at no cost) useable and useful information, so that your visitors really can learn something and find an answer to their question
• react interestedly and quickly to questions arriving by email and use this interaction to improve the website and keep it up-to-date

When you run your website in this manner, it will get high scores in the various search engines, drastically improving the number of visitors and the response you'll get.

It may seem superfluous, but - please, ensure that navigation on your website is intuitive and crystal clear to ALL visitors. After some time, you'll get visitors from rather more than 80 nationalities, from all over the world. So you must find a sure-fire solution for the language problem.

Ik bouwde mijn eerste website een jaar of acht geleden. Deze diende vooral voor de makkelijke uitwisseling van technische kennis. Sedertdien is de scope nogal uitgebreid, zoals moge blijken uit het complete domein www.alexdenouden.nl, waarop je je nu bevindt.

Bij het creëren van de opvolgende edities van mijn sites heb ik een grondige kennis opgebouwd van wat werkt en wat niet; van de beste te volgen aanpak; van de benodigde HTML-code en stylesheets; van optimale presentatie en snelheid; van bruikbare en onbruikbare gimmicks.

Het is zonde om die kennis niet wat breder ter beschikking te stellen. Daarom bouw ik ook (in opdracht) voor derden websites. Uitgangspunt voor een succesvollle samenwerking is daarbij, dat de te construeren site aansluit bij mijn technische achtergrond. Dat praat immers veel makkelijker tijdens het bouwproject.

I prepared my first website some eight years ago. This was mainly intended for easy exchange of technical knowledge. Since then, the scope has been pretty enlarged, witness the complete domain www.alexdenouden.nl, which you are now visiting.

In creating the successive editions of my websites, I have acquired a solid knowledge of the fundamentals: what works and what doesn't work; what is the best approach; HTML-coding and cascading stylesheets; optimising presentation and speed; useful and useless gimmicks.

It would be a pity, not to offer this knowledge on a wider basis. Therefore I build (commissioned) websites for third parties. Premise for a successful co-operation is, considering my technical background, that the site to be constructed is technical in character. That will ensure easy communication during the project.

Hoe werk ik?

Bij het bouwen van een professionele, technisch geaarde website houd ik de volgende methodiek aan:

• Voorgesprek in Eindhoven, omvattende:
1. Gedachtenwisseling over doel van de te bouwen site
2. Genereren en in overleg vastleggen basisideeën
3. Bepalen richtprijs aan de hand van mijn standaardcalculatie
• Offerte en omschrijving opdracht, inclusief betalingstermijnen en condities
• Na opdracht: basisontwerp van startpagina en volgpagina, inclusief stylesheet. Deze worden op een besloten webpagina gezet, waarna overleg per email volgt (deze methode van feedback en interactie via het Internet tijdens de bouw wordt gedurende het hele bouwtraject gevolgd)
• Na goedkeuring:
1. Opmaak alle benodigde pagina's
2. Klaarmaken aangeleverde illustraties (foto's, tekeningen)
3. In overleg toevoegen van animaties (beeld, geluid)
• Hierbij kan naar wens ondersteuning worden gegeven bij:
1. Maken van professionele foto's en/of tekeningen
2. Schrijven en/of vertalen van tekst
3. Bewerken eventuele audiobestanden
• Presenteren en goedkeuren van de gerede site
• Aflevering op CD (tevens back-up)

How do I work?

In building a professional, technically oriented website, I use the following method:

• Preliminary meeting in Eindhoven, embracing:
1. Thorough exchange of views about the aim of the website
2. Generating and finalising the basic set up
3. Price indication on the basis of my standard calculation
• Quotation and definition of the commission, including payment terms and conditions
• After commission: basic design of homepage and follower-page, including stylesheet. These will be uploaded to a private site, accessible only to the principal, after which these pages can be discussed by email (this method of feedback and interaction via the Internet will be followed throughout the project)
• After approval:
1. Preparation of all pages required
2. Preparation of photo's and drawings delivered by the principal
3. As required, addition of animations (image, soundbits)
• In this, I can on request offer support in:
1. Making professional photo's and/or drawings
2. Writing, editing or translating texts
3. Editing of audio files
• Presentation and approval of the completed website
• Delivery on CD-ROM (also back-up)
