Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Luchtvaart (1910-1912)De Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Luchtvaart werd in 1910 gesticht door de automobielfirma Verwey en Lugard, toen gevestigd aan de Laan van Noord Oost Indië te 's-Gravenhage. Als vestigingsplaats voor de nieuwe onderneming werd de Soesterbergse heide gekozen. Hier bouwden in de herfst van 1910 Frits Koolhoven - constructeur en autocoureur - en Henri Wijnmalen - ex-student medicijnen - Nederlands eerste vliegtuig van Nederlands ontwerp: de "Heidevogel". Eerlijkheidshalve moeten we opmerken, dat "Heidevogel" nog wel tamelijk sterk gebaseerd was op de Farman tweedekker. |
Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Luchtvaart (1910-1912)The Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Luchtvaart was established in 1910 by the firm of Verwey en Lugard, car dealers of the Laan van Noord Oost Indië in the Hague. The new company settled on the Soesterbergse heide. Here, in the autumn of 1910, Frits Koolhoven - engineer and racecar driver - and Henri Wijnmalen - flipped student of medicine - together constructed "Heidevogel", the very first Dutch-designed and Dutch-constructed airplane. To be fair, we must remark that "Heidevogel" showed strong similarities to the Farman biplane. |

Wijnmalen en Koolhoven hadden elkaar leren kennen in Frankrijk, toen zij daar leerden vliegen. Koolhoven werd leider van de fabriek, Wijnmalen ontfermde zich over de vliegschool die deel uitmaakte van de Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Luchtvaart. Gedurende 1911 werden met "Heidevogel" demonstraties gegeven. Aan het eind van het jaar ging de onderneming failliet. |
Wijnmalen and Koolhoven first met in France, when they took their flying instruction there. Koolhoven became Technical Manager while Wijnmalen took care of the Flying School which also formed part of the Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Luchtvaart. During 1911 "Heidevogel" flew various demonstrations. At the end of that year, the company was bankrupt. |
